Miners’ Friendly Society’s Dental Clinic back then, we continue to remain a local, family-run practice nearly a century later. The history of our clinic has helped us establish deep-rooted connections with the surrounding communities, such as South Dudley, Cowes, Kilcunda, Inverloch, Korumburra, Foster and Leongatha.
We strive to provide gentle, personalised general and orthodontic care to patients of all ages.
Each visit starts with a proper look at your teeth, gums, jaw and soft tissues. We’ll talk you through what we find, explain the options in plain language, and put the costs in writing before any treatment goes ahead. If there’s nothing to do, we’ll tell you that too.
New patients of all ages are always welcome, and we bulk bill eligible children.

Check-ups and preventive care
Dental problems have a habit of developing quietly. Decay between teeth, early gum disease, hairline cracks in old fillings and changes in the soft tissues can all progress a long way before you feel a thing.
Regular check-ups give our team something to measure against over time. At every visit we examine your teeth, gums and any existing dental work, take x-rays where clinically indicated, and check in on anything that’s changed since we last saw you. Where treatment is the right call, we explain why, what’s involved, and what happens if you decide to wait.
While most patients are asked to come in for a check-up every six months, how often you need to visit truly depends on your individual needs and risk factors for decay or gum disease. Our dentist will recommend what’s right for you.
Children’s dentistry and bulk billing
Kids’ teeth and jaws change significantly during their growing years. Regular visits allow us to monitor that growth and chat with your child about brushing, diet and habits like thumb-sucking, in a relaxed and friendly setting.
We offer bulk billing Medicare for eligible children under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, which can include up to $1,158 of basic dental treatments over two consecutive calendar years. Eligibility is determined by Services Australia, not by our practice. Our team is happy to check your child’s eligibility and remaining balance prior to their appointment.
Your first visit with us
A first consultation is usually a comprehensive examination and takes around 45 minutes. During this time, we will take a detailed look at your medical history and current medications, followed by an examination of your teeth, gums, jaws and tissues. We might also take X-Rays if needed. Towards the end of your consultation, if we find that a treatment is needed, we would share a custom treatment plan in writing, along with item numbers – so that you could check your health fund entitlements before going ahead.
If you’ve seen a dentist elsewhere recently, bringing along your latest x-rays or a treatment summary can save time and spare you a repeat scan.
Fees and payment
Fees depend on the treatment involved, and we always put them in writing before anything begins. We accept most health funds and can process your claim on the spot, and our team can talk you through flexible payment options if you need them.

Dental Emergency
In case of severe dental pain or a dental accident, please call Miners Dental Clinic during business hours and describe your symptoms. We will guide you on the next steps, and if required, might also arrange your appointment at the earliest.
If you happen to have facial swelling affecting breathing, swallowing or vision, uncontrolled bleeding, or a suspected jaw fracture, we recommend that you rush to your nearest hospital emergency department or call 000.

How often should I get a check-up?
Most patients are advised to visit every six months, though it depends on your own risk of decay and gum disease. We’ll recommend an interval based on what we find at your examination.
Are you taking new patients?
Yes. Miners Dental Clinic welcomes new patients of all ages across Wonthaggi, South Dudley, Cowes and the wider Bass Coast and South Gippsland region.
What happens at my first appointment?
A comprehensive examination of your teeth, gums, jaw joints and soft tissues, x-rays where clinically indicated, and a discussion of what we found. You’ll leave with a written treatment plan if treatment is recommended.
Do you treat children?
Yes, from their first teeth onwards, and we bulk bill eligible children under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.
Do I need a referral to see a dentist?
Not needed. You can book with us directly.
Do you offer emergency appointments?
Yes. We do our best to see emergency patients the same day. Call as early as you can.
